2018 Nation Junior Road Series

National Junior Road Series (NJRS) to roll out in 2018

Cycling Australia is pleased to announce the introduction of a National Junior Road Series (NJRS) which will roll out across the country from April 2018.

An initiative of Cycling Australia, with the support of local state and club organisers, the NJRS will include events from all states and territories between April and September for cyclists in the under 15 and 17 categories.

The new series essentially provides a virtual link between Australia’s premier junior road events, with new measures and guidelines in place aimed at bolstering participation in state based events, without requiring additional travel.

Riders are able to race in interstate events, however they are only eligible to score points in races contested in, or nominated by their state, plus the Junior National Championships.

Individual category winners for each state will be awarded an official Santini leader’s jersey.

“We are excited to be announcing this exciting new racing opportunity for our junior cyclists,” said Cycling Australia CEO Steve Drake.

“We are delighted to be working with the states and clubs to make this exciting concept come to life and to provide a key link between the best state events throughout Australia.

“We have seen rising numbers in the National Junior Track Series every year since its inception five years ago, so we are excited by what opportunities the NJRS will provide our junior cyclists across the country.

“We believe the NJRS provides an attractive participation opportunity, while also increasing the standard of the domestic competition and possibly unearthing a new generation of champions.”

The NJRS will commence in Victoria in April and will culminate at the National Junior Championships in Perth.
