Cycle clubhouse opens doors

Evening of celebration: The Port Macquarie Cycle Club opened the doors of its new clubhouse on Tuesday.

Evening of celebration.

THE Port Macquarie Cycle Club opened the doors of its new clubhouse on Tuesday with an informal evening of celebration.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s director of infrastructure Jeffrey Sharp was on hand to officiate and unveil a plaque acknowledging the support of a number of organisations.

“The completion of the clubhouse, which has been three years in the process, has opened up a multitude of opportunities for the club to host state and national events and introduce more cycling programs for schools, disabled groups and fitness programs.”

Also acknowledged on the night were the generous contributions made by numerous local businesses who supplied electrical, consulting, design, materials and professional services, turning the $408,000 received in grants into a million dollar facility for the Hastings.

These businesses and individuals will be recognised on an honour board to be displayed in the clubhouse.

The festivities included a fancy dress bike race before members and friends adjourned to the clubhouse verandah to enjoy refreshments to the sounds of a blues band headed up by junior club members Josie and Liam Wright.
