2015 Road Race Report Week 2 – A day for the hard men"

The Velominati define the hard man as “the tough-as-nails-cyclist, often spotted gliding over cobblestones or mashing up the Koppenberg in the big Ring in all kinds of weather”. Our forecast promised bad weather, and it delivered. With Jason off racing on fat tyres and Greg mumbling about international visitors, or doing his nails or something, Chris did the math and decided that the odds of him having a wheel to follow to the finish line were not good enough, so he too stayed at home.
Fortunately for the reduced field that braved the elements there was a patch of less than drenching rain that allowed this week’s race to get underway. The handicappers had been busy reviewing the form shown in week one and this saw Brandon elevated to C Grade and Pieter to B, despite this both managed a solid second place in their new grades. Another hard man worth mentioning this week is Ryan Barker, coming back from injury Ryan rode hard in C Grade to secure third place. Ryan will be one to watch as he returns to form in the coming weeks.
Once again Liam M led the field on a merry dance, showing the peloton a rooster tail as he repeatedly attacked on the hills but this race was about more than finish line honours, it set the tone for the season, ride hard, or go home!

It’s a draw in the Juniors
Meanwhile, common sense and reason dominated with the juniors who headed indoors for some serious core strength work and some sprint training all to melodious harmony of a Sufferfest Training video. The racing was fast and furious but even the photo finish could pick a winner.  Well done guys, that’s hard core training!
