2015 Liam Maginnis -Rider Profile

Port Macquarie Cycling Club’s latest rising star, Liam Magennis, is emerging as a first class cyclist with his recent signing onto the

National Road Series Team and an impressive performance in the Mitchelton Bay Classic.

Liam with generous support from team Mobius in 2015, will be juggling his study whilst chasing selection for the UCI under 19 Road World Championships in the USA, as well as competing in some NRS races. Still in the under 19 category Liam has been punching above his weight with a number of top 10 finishes at national level in 2014, despite being set back by two crashes in the season, his rapid recovery enabled by Nick Ratcliffe of Hastings Physiotherapy.

Liam started riding at age 9 and initially gravitated to triathlon with some good results before switching to cycling in 2011. Liam is an all-rounder with ability both against the clock, and in the hills.  He has an aggressive racing style, and is always looking for, or making, the break away, in line with his racing mantra which is that “it is easier to win from a small bunch than a big bunch!”

The Cycling Australia under 19 selection races are:

  • Oceania Championships Toowoomba (already completed)
  • The Cycling Australia Junior Mountain Climb Championships 18-19 April 2015 in Mt Buffalo VIC
  • Tour of Mersey Valley Tasmania 1-3 May 2015
  • Cycling Australia’s U19 Road National Championships 10-12 July in Gympie, QLD.

PMCC wishes Liam a great year of racing and we will be reporting his results as they come in.
